View Full Version : Can't Transfer Shows with Red 'do not enter' Circles

Greetings,

I posted this to the Roxio Tivo to Go forum and it was suggested I post this here.

I just installed Tivo To Go along with Toast. I have an accurate list on Tivo To Go of all my programs. On Tivo, all the shows have either green balls, or yellow balls as icons before the show name. On Tivo to Go, some of the shows have green balls and yellow balls as per Tivo. But some shows are preceded by an icon that is a red circle with a diagonal line going through it. Any show with this icon can't be transferred to my Mac.

Here is the weird thing - for a show with a season pass, some can be transfered and some can't. So for example I can't transfer the older episode of The Simpsons but I can transfer the new one. Same for a cooking show from PBS - the newer 3 can be transfered, the older 3 can't. There is also a football game that has the dreaded 'red circle.'

FYI I amusing a Macbook pro and a Tivo 2. I spoke to Tivo and they tell me it is a Roxio issue. Roxio sent me here. I have rebooted the router and the Tivo. Software is current.

I spoke to one user who had the problem and then the problem fixed itself for him.

All help for solving this is most appreciated!!

Eric

It sounds like your cable provider might have been mistakenly flagging programs as "uncopyable" and at some point, noticed the error and corrected it. Unfortunately, AFAIK there is no way to unflag the shows once they've been flagged.

OK, thanks for the response. Not what I wanted to hear but I guess facts are facts!

I suppose I could call Comcast but I can't imagine that being successful. The only reason I care so much is one of the events is a bowl game that I really want - first bowl game ever for Rutgers and I want to back it up! If anyone has suggestions for this let me know.

And again, thanks for the post.

Could you record it to video tape via a VCR, then digitize that recording? A bit of a kludge, but it would preserve the recording...

Do you have analog capture gear such as a capture card or a digital camcorder with A/V inputs, etc? If so, just capture the game from the Tivo and then output it to a DVD with your PC or Mac. If you have a DVD recorder, it can record the Tivo's A/V outputs directly to DVD.

(I don't think the "no copy" flags affect the Tivo's A/V outputs.)

OK, thanks. Sounds like that's what I have to do. I can capture it out with my mini-DV camera, and then I guess I would just use iMovie to go from the tapes to computer so I can make a DVD? Thanks for the help!

If you haven't done this type of transfer before, I'd suggest doing a short test first to make sure there aren't any "gotcha's" before investing the time to do a full length show. You can use an 'RW' media for tests and drafts, and then copy the 'RW' to 'R' for "permanent" storage (FWIW I don't trust user programmed media and always make a "just in case" copy on miniDV tape as well -- properly stored miniDVs are quite reliable).

EricDid you get the game as pay per view or from some premium sports channel?
Also can you MRV the shows to another TiVo if you have another one?

The game was on NFL Network, which is part of my basic package. This is not the premium version of the NFL Network. I can't MRV it though as I only have one TiVo. I guess that the miniDV is my best shot?

Thanks to everyone. This is a great resource!

I thought I read somewhere here that the Tivo outputs "flagged" programs with Macrovision protection.
Am I mistaken?
