View Full Version : Help...tried to download new upgrades and now the TIVO won't work at all.

I'm a newbie to this site. I have had a Samsung SIR 54120R TiVo unit for about two years. I love this machine and I have had no problems until I tried to download the new program updates. Then my system tried to "power-up" with no success. Now that screen is gone and I have nothing at all and the machine is now making a noise. I'm not even sure if this is a TiVo problem or a Directv problem. I've tried unplugging the system and still nothing. I need suggestions on what to do next. Directv is offering to send a refurbished machine if I sign up for two more years with them -- but I love my TiVo. I'm looking for suggestions from all of you TiVo fans out there.

What do you mean you "tried to download"?
The TiVo gets its updates by way of connecting to the TiVo servers, something that TiVos do all the time.
DirecTiVos get updates thru the satellite feed, don't they?
How could YOU have "tried to download" anything?

OK...so I used the wrong wording ( I really am a Newbie Nerd). So what I meant was that I did the upgrades that Directv recommended and then the problems started.

I'm not being a word Nazi here, but we've got to understand each other.
Now, you say you "did the upgrades DirecTV recommended"...
So what were these and how did you do them? What was involved?
(Also, were you aware there are two DirecTiVo forums here? The guys who own DirecTiVos might know more about this than people in the "general" help forum.)
