At 6:00AM every Wednesday, all my Tivos change the cable channel to channel 30 and the record lights come on. This lasts for approximately 30 minutes. They aren't recording what is on channel 30.

Is Tivo downloading info. or updating something. I live in Los Angeles and Time Warner is my cable company. Can anyone explain what is happening?

Thanks

It probably downloading the Showcase content. This is usually done in the earlier hours, like 2am. Have you tuned to ch 30 to see what it is?

It is recording showcase content. Do a search in Find Programs for TELEWORLD - you will see that some of those are set to record. This is infomercial timeslots that TiVo uses to record Showcase content. Not to worry. I have spotted my DT boxes recording showcase content anywhere from 1-6am.

At least once/week I do a search for Teleworld, view upcoming episodes, and cancel the recording to keep it from doing that.

May I ask why?

I have never really understood peoples issue with this. This won't trump any programs that you have set up, won't take up any user space and every now and again have something kinda cool on it.

I didn't know you could do this. I thought in order to stop the showcase recording is to schedule recordings over those blocks.

Well let me put it this way -- TV MY way doesn't include TiVo wrestling control of my system in order to do their thing. I'm often up when the Teleworld programming is on. TiVo changed my channel once too often in order to record their crap and I had enough of it.

Simpler just to cancel the recordings. Works for me.

If you schedule a recording over the Teleworld blocks, you do it once and then forget it. You don't have to cancel recordings every week.

Not recording the Teleworld program just means you will get Yellow Stars with no videos attached to them. It will not stop these ads from showing and it doesn't affect the amount of recording space you have as the space is already reserved by TiVo in the OS to begin with.

True, unfortunately. But at least it won't change channels on me while I'm listening to the news and cooking breakfast. It really ticks me off when it does that - especially since I never watch the junk it records anyway.

True - but that assumes I'll want to watch the same channel every day- I don't. Neither do I want to 'delist' the channel that Teleworld programs are on - its the Discovery channel here and I often watch it.

The TiVo asks "mother may I" one minute before changing the channel. You can always change back if you miss the request for permission. Or you could continue to look for things to be pissed off about.

Haven't been pissed off since I found that I could cancel the recordings. :p
