After years of faithful service, I'm looking to replace my series 1 (Phillips) with a 160-hour drive (ok that is the one mod it has) with a Series 2 (80-hour dual-tuner refurb for $50 on Tivo's site). Since the new box is dual-tuner and has much more for features, I'll probably drop the service on the old box. Without service, can I:
1. Play back movies, etc stored on it before dropping service. (for example 160 hours of kid-vids that will never change.)
2. Use it as a TV tuner. I have an older Archos with records composite and has a timer function, but no tuner (depends on a cable box, vcr, etc to change the channel). This way I could use the Archos for the rare "3rd-tuner-needed" nights.
3. Do manual timer-based (VCR-style) recordings. Again, for the "3rd tuner needed scenario". I know the recording wouldn't get a program name, description, etc, but for occasion use, that wouldn't be a big deal.
I know I could sell the box on Ebay, but if it has some use left, I'd like to hold on to it. (I guess I'm being quasi-sentimental).
