I installed the preview version of Tivo desktop 2.4 and downloaded a few TV shows to my laptop. When I try to play one of them, it asks me for my password. What password is it referring to? Where would it be set?
I tried entering the media access key but that was not what it was looking for. Has anyone else seen this?

Early on (I'm not sure what version, exactly) you assigned a playback password with Tivo Desktop that you had to enter every time you played a Tivo file. Sounds like a revisit of that function for some reason?

I gave up on Desktop 2.0 when I could never figure out what password they needed.
I installed Desktop 2.4 on a new PC, transferred files from TiVo and 2.4 demanded a Playback Password on files that I just recorded this past week.
I don't see any relationship with this new installs. Where do we find this password in our account.
I decided to uninstall desktop 2.4 (Preview) and load desktop 2.3a.
Now my programs play. Possibly I will try to upgrade back to 2.4 Preview and see what happens
(Later Edit)
I did upgrade back to 2.4 and my playbacks now work. Here is the full history.
I downloaded TiVo Desktop 2.4 (Preview) on two new PCs, My laptop and a desktop. I had formerly tried to use Desktop 2.0 on an old desktop, but gave up with PlayBack Password issues.
The first recent TiVo recordings that I tried to play took me to the legacy enter your Playback Password block.
After reviewing comments about 2.3 being password free, I uninstalled 2.4 and installed 2.3b. Then my playbacks worked w/o the password issue. Then I reinstalled 2.4 Preview and they are playing again.
The only thing that I can think of is that I had uploaded a favorite video onto the TiVo back in the desktop 2.0 days. Then I had downloaded the video into my TiVo recording folder
Since then I had a TiVo hard-drive failure so now am running about 600 hours of TiVo recording on a 600+ gb drive :-)
Last week, when I installed desktop 2.4, the first thing I did was go out and restore the one TiVo recording I had retained of the video and moved it into my TiVo recording folder. I then uploaded to my TiVo box as it is one we like to show to friends. It is our son doing a standup comedy act and we all love it.
This is the only file that had any history with desktop 2.0. The TiVo was new, the desktop and laptop were new. For some reason, the old TiVo file caused the demand for PlayBack password with Desktop 2.4 Preview.
I thought I would add history of the problem, possible causes, and the solution I came up with.

TiVo Desktop 2.0 asks the user to create a password during install and for the MAK. It's this password it was looking for not one found on your account. Why TiVo Desktop 2.4 needs it is a good question.
