Here is my first post. I am upgrading my HD and my DTIVO freezes on the "Welcome. Powering Up..." screen. It has been on this screen for over 10 minutes. I reinstalled the original TIVO HD and it booted in 2 minutes.
I used Instant Cake with the CD set to Master on Primary IDE. The HD as Master on the Secondary IDE. IC seemed to work just fine. I did use the proper ISO from IC.
I am using a Western Digital 160 GB HD, it was not new at the time, but IC should format. I have tried the HD jumper setting on Master, which is no jumper. I have also used Cable Select, as that is what the original drive was set to.
I have read the post about this, and I seem to be doing everything correct. Did I miss something? Should I give it longer? I had a HD on the IDE cable on the computer on which I used IC, so I don't think I have an IDE cable issue.
HELP!!

How many drives are you starting with in the Tivo?

I had 1 HD & I am upgrading with a 1 HD config. Also, I have now tried every possible jumper setting, no luck. I am going to re-Cake it tomorrow unless I hear of other alternatives. Thanks for the reply

Did you do a manufacturer test on the drive? maybe there is something wrong with the drive.

I am not familiar with a manufacturer test. Could you tell me what that is? If it is an easy thing to do, I will give it a try. If not, maybe I should get another drive and try it.

Well, I decided to try a new HD, and picked up a Maxtor 320 GB. I caked it, and changed the IDE cable when I did. It worked like a charm. I am not sure if the drive is bad, the IDE cable is bad, or I got a bad cake. I do know that I now have a working Directivo with a bunch more space for video. :-)

If you have a Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate, etc... just go to their site and download a utilities disk to perform the testing. Example: Maxtor's powermax... this will tell you if there is anything wrong with the disk.
