I bought a Humax DRT-800 two years and three months ago. Over that time, it would freeze up and need to be rebooted about every week to every other week, on average. I figured that it was just normal and read on this site about how most users experienced similar performance.
In January 2007, I upgraded the Humax to a 250 gig hard drive. The 80 gig drive removed was a Seagate. The new 250 gig I installed is a Western Digital I bought on EBay.
Folks, the machine has not locked up once since the upgrade.
I also use to have occasional problems with recording a DVD where after recording, the DVD would not play all the way through. It would freeze in the last 20 percent of the play. That has not happened either since the upgrade.
Why? I don't know. But these are the facts.
