Judges picked right again. I was SO afraid that Andrea was going that I started to feel sick to my stomach.

Carissa is really showing her true inner --BLEEP-- lately. I've had more than enough of her and wish they'd done a double-elimination last week when she really deserved to go (but was too glad to see Michael go that I didn't even think about it). Please Andrea and Matt...rock the next challenge and send Carissa home!

My favorite designs this week:
1. Matt
2. Andrea
3. Carissa
4. Goil

Not sure if my feelings about Carissa carried over though, but didn't like the room divider, though the "vents" on the opposing walls was actually a really neat look with the shades of blue.

I wonder why they didn't take the "water" and "fire" elements more literally? I thought a nice room centered around a romantic fireplace would be nice...and a water feature would have been nice in the water room. Oh well, judges probably would have hated either one, as being "too literal".

Matt's room was gorgeous, but bogus when you considered his element. Where was the water influence? You could have easily said his room was 'air' and gotten away with it.

ITA! I think water had it way too easy. They should have all had the same element so we could see how they each would have handled the same thing. I'll bet everyone would have had a different interpretation of water and they would have taken it a little more into account on judging.

It actually did feel a little more like air actually...and Carissa's could have been water with all that blue.

I really loved Carissa's walls, but one would have been sufficient... the one behind the bed would have been perfect. I loved Matt's room, but agree that his could have been Air and Carissa's Water. Andrea's room wasn't up to her usual standards. I really liked Goyl's upholstered panels, but it was definitely time for him to go.

agreed...my wife and I both simultaneous started to say that Matt's room was AIR and Carissa's more like water. And Carissa's definitely would have been better with no screen and only one accent wall

Goil definitely thinks outside the box, but he is WAY too emotional!

I agree that Matt and Carissa could have switched cards, and no one would have known. But then again, the judges don't seem to care quite as much about that, as overall look and feel.

And in the hotel, WHAT was the judge that designed the hotel (I forget her name?) wearing? She has some of the oddest outfits I've ever seen...

I really liked Goil, but he needs more work... Carissa drives me nuts. But my main remark was that they were all so young, they had obviously never been in a luxury suite! Sitting in the lobby of a hotel hardly gives inspiration.

Given the space (sq. ft.) they had to design, I was disappointed that half the group chose to chop theirs up with a big divider. I am really disappointed at the quality of all their designs. For the amount of money they are given to create with, it just seems sad.

Plus... no minibar?

The finalits on Design Star were far more talented, and created much more exciting rooms for much less moola. I don't think I will watch another season of this particular elimination show unless they get participants who are a little more seasoned. This show is more like Design Finals, or whatever that show was, with the design school students.

Lol, when they first walked in and sat down (before we'd seen her close up), I thought it was Cindy Lauper and thought oh no, another "design something wild and crazy" challenge. :p

I think the talent pool will improve as the show gets more established. It always seems to be the case, where the first season it's just an unknown, so not as many talented people try out. Once it catches on, we'll see a huge change!

The challenge was to design a suite, yes? A hotel suite typically has more than one room.

Otherwise you are not in a suite -- you are simply in a room. ;)

That's what seemed strange about the whole challenge to me though. They had all this money and were told to design a top-notch "suite" for a luxury hotel...wouldn't all these thing imply that they would have more room to work than they did? I really thought that they would give them each a real suite in the hotel to work with. It seemed ridiculous for them to have to work in those small spaces again.

I agree, but I guess the hotel wouldn't be too keen on the idea of the designers putting in new floors and walls. ;)

They've done it on Apprentice and on Billionaire Richard Branson, and neither of those had actual decorators. You'd think they could find a hotel that would love to have 4 suites designed for them for free by actual decorators / decorator wannabes...even if it's a local Motel 6, lol ;0)

That's what I was thinking. I couldn't believe they would give them all that moola and then the same small spaces. I know that a "suite" implies more than one room, but I didn't see anything luxurious about a bed that looked like it was in a "luxury" railroad sleeping car. And Goil did not put in a divider, and though he did get sent home, they didn't say it was because he didn't chop the room up.
