This was great for me as I just started watching 24 last season. I wish they would have told us what was in Hildog's sniz. :D

The following takes place between....
(que dramatic 24 music :p :D )
24 telephone beeps....
And the hi-standards of South Park continue. :p :D

Guess I was a minute late. Calling MOD!

As soon as he called Kyle, I turned to my friends and said, "Are they making fun of 24?"
Pretty sad that I recognize the "secondary phone ring" 24 uses, before they used the recognizable one.

I don't watch 24, and even I got that it was making fun of it.
I want to know what was in her sniz. Also, where was Kenny? Maybe he was in there....:D
I liked the end, where Cartman was praising the fact that his bigotry was what saved them all. :D

What's up with Hillary and the fake "hick" accent? Is that some sort of goof on something she is actually doing for real while on the campaign trail??

It's a jab at how she'll go whichever way the political wind blows her.
(And for the record, I'm as liberal as they come.)

"You're not in charge anymore. I am!"
My favorite line was when Cartman said, "That's why I'm talking this way - in a loud whisper for dramatic effect." :D

Yes, she does this when she is in front of southern audiences.

LOL, hilarious ending dialogue.

This was a really strong episode. The 24 clock itself is kind of old hat for a parody but they did a great job of making fun of all the other elements of the show. And I didn't see the power outage joke coming at all for some reason.
I like all the web sites they referenced. Like JDate. Heh.
The way the faces of the kid's parents were drawn while cartman was torturing them was really hilarious. I laughed a lot at that.

She was recently called out for this on Drudge.
She lived in Arkansas, but moved to New York to represent those people. She isn't above changing her voice and opinions to suit the situation. She just needs to run a poll to find out what she should say first.

One of the terrorist tried to run up a ladder and was shot to death, as he was runnning up the ladder he said something. I tried to rewind to understand what he said several times but with no luck - did anyone catch that?
Thanks

Yup, that's what I heard. That happens on 24 pretty often, so it was an accurate and funny joke.

Yes, I got it too.
I loved it...

This was my favorite line too....
God I love this show!

Hee-larious.
When the power went out and the clock was flashing 12:00:00 with the sound effect? Priceless.
I also loved how they replaced all of Chloe's technobabble with Internet searching references: mySpace to e-bay to Google Maps ... it was all there.
Great episode.

"I've got the address. I'll get the location on Mapquest!"
"No, I'll use Google Maps. They have real-time traffic alerts!"
"Good idea."

This episode will be a highlight of the season. Really good stuff. Beyond all the fantastic 24 stuff, I loved the very beginning where Cartman slowly freaked out when the Muslim kid sat down next to him.

That was priceless. His "No ho ho ho!" as he scrambled to get out of his desk was trademark Cartman.

My favorite line award goes to "Hildog" --she said something like "South Park is a small town, like the one I come from" :p
( I believe Hildog hails from Chicago? :D )

Her hometown is Park Ridge, Illinois, which is itself a fairly small town -- but it's a very close-in suburb of Chicago. (On the other hand, it seems to vary from episode to episode just how far South Park is from Denver. :D )

Now I get why some of this went over my head. I've never seen 24.

I liked the part when Cartman was on the phone with the agency, with the split-camera view. Then he says "Oh I'm right next to you" and the graphic disappears to show them together. So funny!

Is there some kind of genesis for the term "Hildog" or did M&T just pull that out of their sniz?

Not anymore you're not :)
I also loved, "Nobody uses askjeeves anymore." I haven't hear it called askjeeves in YEARS.

Yes, she does this when she is in front of southern audiences. What I didn't get was why she didn't drop the accent later on? It would have made the point clearer if she stepped offstage and immediately dropped the accent (while saying something b!tchy as well).

I seem to only be able to find reference to one incident when she did this, and that was when she was quoting someone else during a speech in Selma. Are there other incidents?

She was recently called out for this on Drudge.
She lived in Arkansas, but moved to New York to represent those people. She isn't above changing her voice ... to suit the situation.I know people love to hate Hillary, and there are plenty of things to not like about her, but this one is silly.
I grew up in the midwest (Indiana) and west (Seattle/Vancouver), so I really don't have much of any sort of accent. My wife, on the other hand, is from West Virginia. When we visit her family I often catch myself adopting local accents, phrases, etc. It's totally unconscious and not something I plan or try to do, it just happens. If you've lived somewhere for a while (she did spend some amount of time in Arkansas, as I recall :)) it seems perfectly natural to me that you'd slip back into that mode of speech when you're surrounded by other people talking that way.

Man, this episode was almost as implausible as 24!

Nope, that's it, and of course Drudge lied about it, and it got around everywhere to people who don't go further than Drudge for their news.

Leave the city. I grew up in Illinois. Once you venture outside large metropolises like Chicago, Indianapolis, and St Louis, accents are present and THICK.
