Hi Folks!

I am a member of the free BestBuy RewardZone program, and I just got a mailer in the mail today with a coupon for $200 off a HD Tivo DVR (it doesn't specify a Series 3, but it must be) for a grand total of $599.

That is the lowest price I have seen so far - the coupon expires on April 8th.

Matt

(I would go pick one up today if the S3 had Multi-Room transfer) :(

Actually Costco has had it for $599 all month with free shipping.

I'd rather give my money to the TC Store than BB....I'm just sayin'.....

I agree, and did! :)

However, the convenience of walking in to BB with a broken unit and walking out with a new one is hard to ignore.

You're right about the convenience. I bought mine there last week and had to return two of them until I got one that worked - no problems with the return. They also offer 4 year warranty for $99.

Fair Disclosure: I work at BB and got mine with employee discount.

Our BBs don't even carry them....

The best buy near me is always out of stock! It's right next to my gym so I always stop by and ask if they have the series 3.

BB advantage: 6% cashback (if you have a RewardZone Mastercard AND a plethora of double rewards couons to pile on, like most RZ MC users like me, do)

This nullifies the tax difference, and makes an in-store purchase a no-brainer. Then again, at no-brainer levels, I'd try to support the TCF store too :)

Yeah, it's $599 on their website, but when you go in the store its $699 :) Oh, unless you live in Connecticut, where the state is pursuing them legally, it might still be $599.

Best Buy needs to pay for that stunt with their which web site do you want to look at scam - kind of like Al Capone with 2 sets of books!!! Please buy it from TC Community or Costco as they are reputable retailers - even with Costco's revised return policy.

Why would they (TC Store) sell the 30hr unit for $599 but make the 60hr unit $600 more expensive?

Competition - they have very few competitors for the 30+ hour boxes they are marketing.

I'd rather give my money to Costco than BB. Plus I'd have a long warranty with Costco. While their new refund policy for electronics is no long forever, it is 90 days full cash refund then 2 years for replacement or repair. Still the best in the industry.

What state do you live in that you got that $200 coupon? I haven't seen anything from BB in the mail, lately.

And unlike the big box stores like Wal*Mart, Costco has a reputation for being very very VERY good to their employees.

In fact there are times that they have been rated as a bad investment because they have chosen to spend profits on employee benefits over the bottom line.

I wish more companies in this country had that attitude.

I think on that bb deal you have to purchase a magnolia theater tv or something to qualify for the use of the 200 off the s3

No, the link above shows the actual coupon and its fine print. You only need to buy it from a Magnolia theater store-within-a-store setup at Best Buy.

WOW! I just bought my TIVO HD yesterday. . .from Best buy for 799!

I'm running down there tomorrow and repurchasing! Of course in the return line at the store is a sign that reads "magnoia returns can only be made at magnolia" so this is gonna cause some employee at bust buy a big headache! *evil laugh*

BB let me use my coupon at a regular BB (no Magnolia) that had the S3 in stock because the Magnolia store was out of stock. Been loving it for a week (OTA only, no cable).

The video quality of the series 3 compared to my crappy HD cable box is night and day. I don't know if it's just the series 3, or if it's the combination of cable cards with new firmware updates, series 3 and the installer redoing my cable line. But the quality has improved so much.

I hope their 30 day price guarantee holds up. The price guarantee even specifies that if they lower their prices it counts and that they give you an additional 10% of the difference...woohoo...if it all works out I get it for 587! LOL. I did purchase it from a magnolia store.

I want the Series 3 from Best Buy, because according to the site it has this special feature:

"Pause and create 8-second instant relays of live TV"

OK, so I know it's a typo, but still. :D

I don't think coupon discounts counts when they do the price difference.

Since the HD channels are digitally transmitted, the exact same FILE is stored to disk or buffered on botht he S3 and the HD DVR from the CableCo. The MPEG2 decoder on the S3 may be better (although some folks claim the same chipsets are used on both pieces of hardware!)

THX should count for *something*, but I'm skeptical of that.

Maybe it's just karma - video files are just happier to decode clearly when manipulated by/with better written software :)
