Spotted a forlorn looking Tivo at an auction last Tuesday, thought what the hell if it doesn't work it'll do for spares and thrust my hand in the air getting it for bid + commission + vat = £30.37. Powered it up with some trepidation but booted without drama.....it hadn't made a daily call since August 9th but soon put that right and all working ok..........and the icing on the cake is it has a lifetime sub so I'm well pleased :) :)

So with the money saved you need to buy a Cachecard and network it with your other existing Tivo to handle recording clashes using the Tivoweb Conflict Resolve module.
Assuming of course that you already own another Tivo, which it rather sounds as though you may do?

I'm feeling generous so I'll pay you double what you paid for it ?
How does £62 sound ? :D

I’ll see your £62 and raise by £38, how does £100 sound?
On a more serious note, when transferring ownership on Life Time Subbed Tivos don’t you need the previous owner to inform Tivo CS, so you can transfer ownership details? Could this be a hurdle when buying at auction?

Yes buying at auction without knowing the former owner can be a hurdle to formally re-registering the ownership but why does anyone need to re-register it since Tivo does not send out any form of customer communication to owners anyhow.
If you buy at auction you just have to avoid ringing up Tivo customer services and giving that Tivo Service Number. Obviously this could perhaps be an issue if a fault at the Tivo end stops the data flow but all evidence shows that once a unit is first properly activated then data continues to be available, even if the unit has not been used for a very long time.

Comments to the effect of "you don't know you've been born lad etc, etc" spring to mind in relation to having this many Tivos but no upgraded one so far. Perhaps the reason you have to have so many Tivos is because if you don't upgrade at all them then you are constrained by the 11 hour/40 hour Basic/Best recording capacity?
It is just so easy to buy a preconfugured 250Gb or 400Gb hard drive along with a Cachecard and 512MB of RAM from www.tivoheaven.co.uk or www.tivoland.com that I really think someone like you who clearly loves Tivo should give it a try.
I also ran a standard Tivo for over two years but since I upgraded hard drive size and installed a Cachecard and TivoWeb I have just got so much more out of the whole experience. You really should give it a try.

I keep waiting for one of them to break then I'll probably consider upgrading......as it is I have one lifer in fairly constant use and the other gets the occasional programme to record when there are clashes, hd on the main one does get a bit full but it does discipline me to actuallywatch the stuff :)
