View Full Version : Remotes with minds of their own

I have 2 TiVos with separate controls, one as ID1 and the other as ID3, so that they don't interfere with each other, puurfect......
The problem is however that, from time to time and for no obvious reason, the ID3 remote seems to revert to ID1 with the obvious results.
This is hughly irritating because 'er indoors programmes hers (ID1) manually whilst I usually use Digiguide from my PC and because it's ID1 to which mine defaults she's forever inadvertently overriding my programming.
Any ideas why the remopte does this and what to do to prevent it in the future ?
I suppose one thing I could do is reverse the TiVo and remote ID's to see if the problem follows the TiVo or the remote but I'm away from home for a while and unable to try this just at the moment.

Some learning remotes will operate with two different Tivo codes.
The MX-500 does this without any problems.

Swap them round so you override her programming? :)
Some kind of dodgy connection in the remote maybe - buy a new one?

Thought it might be an option, however I wont bother in future.

Perhaps the ID3 TiVo rebooted and forgot it is supposed to be ID3. ;)

why not set both to be number other than the default, (ie ID2 and ID3)?
It won't solve the problem of it forgetting it's ID but it will mean you realise faster there is a problem. And probably before it's wrecked the programming

Good idea Gavin, I'll give it a go.
Jon J - had no reboots on either boxes for several weeks so that's not it unfortunately. The ID's survive a reboot anyhow.
TMC2007 - Now I like that, but the thought of the marital disharmony...................!
Maclynn - Didn't mean to put your nose out of joint so apologies if I came across badly. I don't want to spend ££ to solve this plus 'er indoors would freak out if face with something like that !

Just a thought.... wont a Tivo set to anything other than the default 0 address still respond to a Remote Control set to Zero.
If the handset is somehow returning to default then irrespective of what codes the Tivo machines are set to, it would still control both of them at the same time.
Also a Tivo set to 0 can be controlled by any handset. [UserGuide P103]

No worries, good luck with your problem.
