View Full Version : S3 ignores history, repeatedly records same shows

I've been having problems with my Series3 repeatedly recording the same show even though the episode recorded has previously been recorded within the last few weeks -- even the same DAY in some cases. The other night I got two copies of the same "Decoding Disaster" episode sitting right next to each other in the Now Playing list -- and I'd already watched it once and deleted it, so there was a third copy that was no longer in the active NPL!
Isn't the software supposed to not record a show if it is already present or if it has been recorded in the last ~30 (?) days? I don't recall having this problem until recently.
I think I've seen this happen with other shows; this was just the most egregious example.

Does your season pass have the record "first runs only" flag set or "first runs & repeats"?

Repeats, but I can't recall that being a problem before.

There is supposed to be a 28-day window to prevent repeated recordings.
There are some programs with incorrect guide data. Your TiVo may just be confused and there's not much you can do.
The Daily Show was a prime example. I've stopped trying to record this show, so I don't know if the guide data issues have been fixed. The issue was fixed once, and then re-broken some time later.

The Daily Show usually has episode specific guide data now, but I still have my season pass set up for manual recordings at 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday for this show as well as manual recordings at 11:30 for The Colbert Report. I just don't trust the guide data to remain consistent for either of those shows.

I've also seen, more than once, the same episode in the To Do list twice at the same time. I do not recall for sure if I've seen it since the latest software update. I know for sure I've seen Poker After Dark show up as recording on both tuners.

Same issue here with Decoding Disaster. Aparrently the guide data doesnt have enough or correct information to determine that it is the same as a previously recorded episode.

Our S3s have been MISSING shows lately. One time it said there was something that was higher priority recording. Well, there was, on one tuner. But the other tuner was doing a TiVo Suggestion.
Another time it said the show had already been recorded. Wha? Uh, no it wasn't.
Buggy, crappy software they're making in TiVoland of late. I wonder if it will get any better once they go under/get bought out.

It's not just the S3. My Series 2 does this all the time, and I believe it's the missing guide data. The Daily show is the worst, lot's of repeats on the day following the first-run broadcast, and ALL of them get recorded.
Simspons on Fox is just as bad. I have to clean up a whole weeks worth of reruns (12 episodes) every now and then from my ToDo list, if I want only the Sunday episodes to record. Ugh!
Oh, and blame Guide Data (so either Tribune Media or the channel), not the TiVo. Their implementation/interpretation of the Guide Data and KUID/Keep # requirements is a decent compromise that doesn't require further tweaking!

I have seen this issue as well. Episodes of "American Chopper" on Discovery HD theater that I have already recorded and watching on my S3 get selected to record again on my Season Pass.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it

I've got the Simpsons in my season pass list and it has never picked up repeats from either fox or the local station that runs it 3 times a day in syndication.
which leads me to believe it is probably the local FOX affiliate screwing it up.
Like I said - blame Tribune OR the channel (local affiliate that provides guide info without including episode/original air dat info and teh Repeat flag!) :)
