Just got an S3 Tivo and called Comcast to come out and install 2 cable cards. The tech came out, installed one and there was a popping sound from the speakers on some of the channels. He installed the other one and the popping noise was still there. It's almost like a blown speaker noise, popping from the speakers. My TV is fine, and I had a Comcast Motorola HD DVR connected right before the tech got there and that worked fine too. Anyone have any ideas. The tech said it was probably the Tivo since both cable cards had the same problem and left. Has anyone encountered this? Do I really have to go switch out my TIVO for another one?

Just tried different HDMI cables, same problem. Tried using composite cables, same problem. But I did notice one thing. When you boot up the machine, and it goes through its "THX" logo, it made the same noises. Now I'm guessing it is the TIVO. Any suggestions now?

Try setting the video out of the TiVo to the best resolution you have - I have my set to 1080 fixed and that stopped the slight popping noise. If your Tv is 720 set it to that. It seems that when my TiVo was adjusting the signal it would slightly pop.

Have you tried it with a different TV?

Can you describe your setup and the popping noises more? In particular, there are specific AV receivers that have popping noises in some situations (changing channels, changing between shows and commercials). But I'm inclined to think it's TiVo hardware problems if it's not tied to particular situations.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I wouldn't have let the tech leave until the issue was fixed. They ALWAYS blame something other than THEIR equipment.

I experienced the popping sound coming from my ZVOX speakers while watching a recorded TV show on my S3 last night. This the first time it ever happened since I purchased the TiVo in October and it only lasted for about 5 minutes. My Time Warner cable service is so lame here in SoCal that I am not sure I can blame it on the TiVo.

I got it guys, thanks for any help! It was the TIVO, defective... Bought another one, switched out the cable cards, and no more noise. Took alot of diagnostic work on my part but it turned out to be the Tivo.
