Well, here is the deal. I have posted about my growing disgust with D* and picture quality, and the entrapment deal they have for their HR20-700 "lease" deal. I decided to leave them.

---
D* Monthly - $65 with all HD, and extra receiver. HR10-250 & SAT-T60 both with Lifetimes.

Road Runner- $45

Total $ 110
---

Now TWC (for two years)

Cable w/RR, $70, $5 HD-DVR, $5 HD-Tier, (2) $3.14

Total $ 86.28

---

I bought a Series 3 after I found I COULD transfer my lifetimes from the SAT-T60, for $199. Tivo was $723 delivered with 3 year warranty Total $922.

I should be able to sell my HR10-250 and SAT-T60 on ebay for about $350 or so...which means $572.

After Cable discount the move is costing me $20, and I have ZERO contracts.

FYA if interested.

Maybe TiVo is extending the time for D* subscribers?

I originally was told by Tivo they CAN'T transfer lifetimes from DirectTivo's, but I called on Friday after I sent the D* installer packing and they did let me transfer.

I called/ordered my Tivo and got the Service # over the phone, called Tivo back, and they did the transfer and charged me $199.

Tivo should arrive on this Friday with Cable to be installed on the following Monday.

Barring any cablecard problems, you should be pretty happy with it. Aside from the random reboots that started happening shortly before I left DirecTV, my R10's were really fast and reliable. The Series 3 has a couple lags where the R10's didn't, but it's just as reliable. The S3 has some great features and the picture quality is wonderful. Try throwing a pair of rabbit ears on it and check out what you can get OTA. I get a few locals my cable provider doesn't carry.

Best of luck!

I have not seen DirecTV since they started HD, is it really worse than HD cable?

I ran the HR20 (D*) and the S3 (Comcast) side by side on my Sammy HLS5687W for a few weeks. I did not notice any difference in the HD signal on either side. They looked identical....
