Man, nothing makes me madder than a clip show when you think you're getting an all-new episode of something.
Whoever thought up the clip show needs to be shot with pins or something equally as painful.

I mostly agree, I hafta say I enjoyed the MASH clip shows because of how they were handled, usually by "interviews" by the press.

Geez, does anybody do those anymore (Well, except Lost after a 10 month hiatus ;) )?
I guess it's one way to fill the season and get paid for the ads. I bet they're mostly on the week after sweeps. :D

Man, all this talk about clip shows makes me recall some of the clip shows I've seen...

They just did one on "Scrubs" a few weeks ago...here's the evidence (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=342825) (in the form of a thread on this very forum).

I'm not going to tell what show prompted this thread because it's too embarrassing, but I will say that Vh1 is a BIG violator of the no-clip-show rule.
You know, the rule I have in my head. :)

Grey's Anatomy has a clip show coming up. Be warned, it'll likely be billed as a new episode, and
Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be the on-camera host for the clips. He'd better not be in character as Denny, so help me.

I agree for the most part. I enjoyed the Seinfeld clip show that aired right before the finale...but, that's the time to do it.
For the most part, clip shows are completely useless...such as what Survivor does to drag out their seasons, followed by another similar clip show at the reunion.

Some of The Simpsons clip shows were done tongue-in-cheek and not so bad really. But in generally, yeah. Clip shows suck.

But Survivor clip shows actually have a *LOT* of new content, plus they ACTUALLY put a banner on the screen saying something like "unseen footage".. so if you're really picky, you can ff and ONLY watch the new footage.
But personally, as someone who JUMPS on the remote to avoid stuff I've seen before (e.g. if I didn't watch it while I was on the treadmill, I'd FF through the opening graphic to the top 10 list on Letterman..), the Survivor clip shows are entertaining all the way through.
Plus, I watch a lot of stuff (like Letterman as I mentioned) at 1.5x on my other recorder. So that's even more impatient.. (Only for news/science/discussion shows.. basically anything BUT sitcoms/dramas..)

There are two types of clip shows that don't completely suck:
1) The special "here's what's happened" special clip shows, like they've done with both Grey's Anatomy and Lost, and probably others. These don't pretend to be a regular episode, so regular viewers aren't usually fooled into thinking a new episode is about to air, only to discover it's just a clip show.
2) The ones that lampoon clip shows (well). This was the problem with the Scrubs clip episode - they made a joke about the clip shows, but it didn't turn out to be a parody of a clip show.
