View Full Version : S3 TiVo Menu's Are Very Slow

My TiVo's menus are extremely slow, much slower than my Series 2, and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't just an issue with my unit. For example, after reviewing a program's information listed on the Upcoming Wishlist Programs' page, my TiVo takes 32 seconds to return to the list of shows. In the Now Playing menu, every time I scroll down a page there's a pause as the names of more shows are added one-by-one-by-one. Again, my Series 2 was much more responsive. Are others experiencing this issue?

When I first started using my S3 the menus were slow but they have sped up since then. I don't know when or why, but they are faster now.

...Are others experiencing this issue? Not me...I've had my unit since they came out in mid-September. They seem as snappy as my S2 was.

I haven't noticed any change in menu speeds. I hate to say anything good about the cable DVR but the menu speed on that is much faster then the S3's.

Of course a fast menu doesn't make up for all the other things that the cable box lacks. :)

Are others experiencing this issue? Yes it sucks... very slow (and kind of embarrassing for such an expensive DVR). Just got to get used to it I guess. 8.1.1 helped a little but not much for me.

Mine are a bit slower, but one thing I've noticed on my S3 that's _drastically_ slower than my S2 is when I go to search for a program by say title and start typing in characters. My S2 pretty quickly updates the title list to the right, while on my S3 the list takes a while to refresh.

Somehow that slows things down something fierce.

Hopefully tivo will address that in the next update.

When I go to my SP lists and view the episodes page, the more eps there are, the longer it takes to display or go back...

I was one of the people commenting in that thread. This isn't a new issue w/ the S3. I was able to reproduce the slowdown with the S2DT. Maybe the usage pattern for a few people has shifted with the S3 - only turning on the few HD channels they have, vs leaving most channels turned on. Based on that, not sure how high a priority fixing it will be.

Yes, definitely. The S2 didn't have this problem. Some menus are a problem, and others are fine. My Now Playing & To-Do are about the same speed as my S2.

There are two areas where I have a problem, a bug/quirk of some kind. Hopefully fixed soon. They are:

1) Search By Title, very slow to go from letter to letter

2) When viewing WishLists, I get the same lag you have, about 30 seconds to return to screen after viewing individual episode info.

And yes, not everyone has these issues, so there are other factors at play. As GoHokies mentioned, the number of channels received vs number removed is one factor.

My S3 is snappy when doing most of what I normally do, except, it takes 180 seconds to populate a wishlist search and 15 seconds to return after a selection from that list. This is really excruciating for me because it's something I do a lot (wishlist searches). I'm hoping that TiVo resolves this issue with a service update. Once that's fixed, I'll have no significant complaints.

Another less problematic issue is when season passes have a lot of episodes. It can take up to 30 seconds to populate the episode list. That one doesn't bother me much. Only a few of my SP's have that problem.

Hopefully tivo will address that in the next update. Yes I saw that thread. In my case I have both OTA and digital cable and filter out a lot of channels besides ones I don't receive so looks like further confirmation that slowdown is proportional to filtered out channels.

The 8.1 update is what did it for me. It's still a tiny bit sluggish, but MUCH MUCH better than it was when I first had the box, with 8.0.

The WL problem (lagging return after viewing an episode) did *not* start until 8.1. The S3 was no different than the S2 in that aspect, until the update came out. Isn't that strange? :)

None of these are mission critical, but the WL one is annoying, as I am a heavy WL user (or was, until I lost most of them, but that's a different thread... )

Overall the menus are faster than my S2. Search by title is the only menu that I have found has a delay but I rarely use it.
