Despite a lot of forum searching, I can't find a solid answer to the following question. Anyone know?
I have an out-of-subscription Tivo currently running a 120GB disk and a turbonet card (call this tivo1).
I have just bought on ebay a lifetime-subscribed tivo that is unhacked (call this tivo2).
Can I just take the disk and card out of tivo1 and drop them into tivo2 and expect it to work without losing the lifetime-sub and the now-showings?
Cheers.
Marc.
In a word - yes
(Assuming the new Tivo is working properly, getting data, making recordings which I would check as soon as you can).
The sub tied to the motherboard, the now playing would be from the unsubbed box (obviously).

Just check that both TiVos have the same software version.
Problems will occur if the donor TiVo has 2.5.5a but the recipient is still on 2.5.5.

What happens if Tivo has 2.5.5a software and you put in a drive with 2.5.5 software, will Tivo upgrade the new drive? My Tivo has just packed up and was running 2.5.5a, but I have a spare drive with 2.5.5 on it.
Thanks in advance. Bob

That will work OK as long as the drive you put in is 120gb or less in size.
The software will be upgraded overnight during the daily call and for 'normal' sized drives all should be well. However, if your drive is > 120gb and previously had the LBA48 kernel installed then this will be overwritten by the upgrade and problems will start to occur when the old kernel installed by the upgrade needs to write past the 137gb point on the drive.
