I have a recentl purchased Samsung SIS-S4040R. After Installing a new drive via InstantCake and the zipper the the system information IRD shows it as a SIS-S4120R?!?!

Did it recognize the larger drive and update the IRD model number?

Yep. I've seen many different models from the S2 family show up. Nothing to worry about.

It didn't,at leat by that account. The image came from a 4120.
Look dow for the actual drive capacity.
