I've offered my (2) zippered HDVR2's to my sister once I move on to Series 3 & FIOS. Will my sister be able to activate them as is? Will I need to do something to them to allow her to ad them to her account?

their hacked nature will be transparent to DTV.

How bad is that?

it's a good thing.
Your sister will probably have to obtain a new access card but that's the extent of it.

Oh, that kind of transparent...cool! I read that as apparent.

I'm in DC, she's in Pittsburgh. Any issues with different stations, etc?

when she activates it on her account, the unit will switch to her channel lineup.

Once activated on her account, she should start getting the Pitt stations. If she just wants one, feel free to send one to me. :)

When you remove it from your account explain to the rep exactly what you are doing and they will remove it from your account in a way that it can easily be transferred to the other account without a new access card. I've done this without issue.

Upgrade the software before you give her the units. The units may need the new software, later this year.

Interesting...will I need to tell them what account they will be transfered to? How long can the cards remain in limbo? A day, a week?

I'm going up for a weekend next month to get her set up. It would suck if the cards didn't work and replacements arrived after I left.

They are both already running 6.2(a).

One last question. Will they need to phone home in order to activate?

No need to tell them what account, just that you are giving it to your sister who will be calling soon to re-activate on her account. They will then put it in the system in such a way that your sister will not need to purchase a new access card. Worked without issue for me about 4 months ago.

probably not, but fakecall will get around the requirement if there is one.
