Hi Tivo gang
Newbie to the community, have had my tivo just under a year and I'm loving the addiction. Was checking out the new Unbox feature and found a price for a season of Unique Whips (speedtv) kind of crazy. Season 1 & 2 is just under 1000 dollars per season.
Hope this is just a glitch sent a email to Amazon just to see. Will repost once I get a answer back.... I'm not buying a new whip I'm just buying a tv show.. LOL.

You violated the first rule of deals. Never call! Man now they are going to change this price and I won't be able to use my $15 credit and then charge $985 to my credit card! :p

You can also get Season 4 of "Sealab 2021" (http://www.amazon.com/Frozen-Dinner/dp/B000HKWPVA/ref=sr_1_1/102-3294637-3285718?ie=UTF8&s=digital-video&qid=1174257006&sr=1-1) for $999.
Oh joy overpriced shows I've never even heard of :)

Individual episodes of season 1 and 2 also aren't for sale. That may be why the seasons are priced as they are. That'd be a nasty one-click thing to accidentally buy, though.

I've heard of it. I might pay 99 cents for 2 seasons but not $999. :p

If it was a clerical error and they just missed the period $9.99 wouldn't be that bad.

I accidentally clicked on the "Sealab" one... $999. Fortunately, I wasn't logged in or something, in any case it asked me to confirm my password. Phew.

Just what in the hell is with only being able to do unbox purchases with 1-click?

I'd agree that is a majorly uncool "feature" they have....

Anybody who'd mis-purchase with one-click would be more than capable of managing to mis-purchase with 2 or more clicks as well.

See above. I almost managed. I was going to click the "Send it to any PC with RemoteLoad" link that's directly under it, and for the mouse pointer must have been pointed just above that link instead, and on the 1-click purchase button. If it hadn't been for the fact that I wasn't logged in, I would have bought a $999 TV-show season.
I honestly doubt that would have happened if the 1-click had not been there.
I don't understand why they force 1-click purchase on Unbox, when it's an option elsewhere.

The final total charge is the price of the item you're buying with one-click. It's not like you can buy three of them at the same time with one-click. :)

Don't necessarily agree. Since it has to be browsed from amazon.com it's possible my 6 and 8 year old will be browsing it. It's possible they might hit the one click nonsense. Does it force you to put in your password for 1-click or do you stay logged in on the same PC (I haven't ordered enough to figure it out yet). If you have to put in your password each time then it's no biggie since it's not really 1-click but rather it's 1-click with some typing and a second click.
1-click totally seems like a way to trick people into accidently ordering stuff in my mind. Maybe I'm cynical but I can't see any other reason to force that on anyone for any reason. As an option it's great but mandatory it's a little pushy.

I am glad no one else can use it :D
That pricing kind of reminds me of the old days when video tapes (remember those) were priced for the rental market only. :)

Maybe, but I've accidentally dropped my mouse on the floor and had it click. I've also had my cat "click" my mouse on occasion. That would make an interesting support call to Amazon. "I'd like a refund on a movie my cat bought." :p

I was just trying to rent Borat and accidentally ordered the 14.99 version. I am on the phone waiting for an amazon rep to speak to me right now. Update to follow.

You can't rent Borat. Most new movies aren't available for rent right away.

Ouch. Amazon loses a customer.
Here is a copy of the email I just sent to Amazon and also submitted a copy to the Consumerist.com
I accidentally ordered an Amazon Unbox video download. The movie was Borat. I thought this movie was a rental which are generally 3.99. Instead this was an order to purchase the movie at 14.99.
I spoke with Dan who is part of the Unbox video download team. He advised me that even though my purchase was made in error, all sales are final and I would not be refunded. I asked him a hypothetical question that if there were technical issues and I never actually received my movie would I be given a refund? Dan stated that no I would not.
I have informed Dan that I will be disputing the charges on my credit card. I would also need to cancel the my Unbox account.
According to Dan I had already canceled my account . This was not done by me and without my knowledge. My next question was how could I have ordered a movie if my account was canceled. Dan said that I must have canceled it sometime in between my order and our phone call. Again I informed I did no such thing. The only measure I took was to unplug my tivo, in an effort to prevent the movie from downloading. A futile attempt at showing Amazon I wasn't trying to get something for free or scam them.
In my many years of purchasing from Amazon I have only had a problem once before, and Amazon went above and beyond the call to make things right. They had failed to make a shipping date with a television and they refunded the shipping costs. This experience has significantly decreased the standard that I had previously held Amazon to.
As I stated previously I intend to dispute these charges with American Express and will also include a copy of this correspondence to a website called the consumerist.com
The Consumerist is a website that allows consumers to "bite back" after they have been mistreated .
Sincerely,
I know it's only $15 bucks, but I honestly wanted to rent it and have only ever rented movies from Unbox (short history but it is a pattern). Hopefully one of the Tivo employees who scan these forums can add their .02
Too late for me most likely, but hopefully they can prevent future mishaps like mine.

I don't see how you can fight it because you agreed to those terms. Do they suck? Absolutely, but you did agree to them. Now, the fact that you never got it, well you told Amazon that you will unplug your tivo, so now the blame is put on you. I hope you win, but I don't think it looks good. Good luck though!

They should present a total of the charge being made and ask if you are sure, same as every other Amazon purchase with 1-click disabled.

When I was having problems with a downloaded show they deleted the download and told me my account would be credited. We tried several times to download this show, each time pretty much doing the same thing .
Then I ordered a movie and found out the credits I was promised would be placed back on my account wern't.
I called Amazon and they told me they couldn't do anything about the movie I purchased at what I thought was a higher price then I should have paid due to remaining credits, but they did give me the entire introductory credit back on my account. So I purchased a movie for $7.50 and received the 15.00 worth of credits back on my account.
I thought they treated me fairly there.

My goal in unplugging the Tivo was to prevent the download from being sent to my Tivo. I thought for sure they would be able to track that the download was never sent and hence never watched. So I would be refunded. Does that make sense?
Does anyone know of any Tivo employees/moderators on the forum that I could get a clarification from?

With a movie purchase you can download repeatedly. Canceling a particular download doesn't change that. You can also download it to a PC.
Look at the bright side - you can watch Borat whenever you want to now.

I wanted to buy the DVD, but also wanted to watch the movie first. I should have told Amazon, refund the cost of the download and I will buy the DVD.
Now that I think about it, if they say my account was canceled and I never got to download the movie wouldn't that void the agreement of payment?

Amazon said my Unbox account was canceled, but my Tivo is downloading Borat right now?
I made a mistake and ultimately I am responsible, but imagine if you made the same mistake with one of the $999 shows? Puts my mistake into perspective.

You will not be refunded, most likely (I think it's in the TOS). That's one of the 2 reasons I'm not getting anything from them (not even going to use my free $15).
And yeah, I am REALLY happy that I wasn't logged in when I made the mistake I mentioned earlier in the thread.

You could be right about that no refund.
After about a week of trying to contact them over 2 failed $3.99 movie downloads (I have no idea why the email & phone links weren't working for me) I was finally able to send a message through their web form and they wouldn't refund my money. Just gave me a series of $1.99 credits that couldn't even be combined.
But I guess I should be glad that I at least got that!
