bought a samsung 4120r on ebay.. the description said that it shuts itself off after a few hrs of use.. it has a software version of 6.2 if i hook it up and let it update.. can that possibly fix the issue? i am currently deleting everything on it.. i was told that the fan could be bad and it was overheating.. but it is working.. if it keeps it up.. can i take this hard drive out and put it in my 4040r samsung? will it just plug and play?
thanks for the help guys

Suggestion?
Try changing/editing the title of your post into "TiVo shuts itself off every few hours".
If I read you right, this may be a case of the TiVo repeatedly "rebooting on its own" which is another way you might want to phrase it in the title.
Nobody really knows what this post is about, and those who could give you some help might not be interested in a simple post about an eBayed TiVo.

What's your deal with posting a link to a thread we're already in?

Anyway, lets try to answer the question and help this person out......
Could be an Overheating or Power Supply problem. Most probally overheating as it is an older unit. They are known for overheating. A Fan replacement could fix the problem.
