I've read all the posts I've found with problems about the Tivo not successfully changing channels.
I have a DirecTV box and a Series 2 Tivo. I can change channels with the DirecTV remote, but I can't with the Tivo remote. I know it's not a remote problem because the Tivo can't even change channels by itself (when switching channels to record another show).
I've had the Tivo a couple of years now, and it connects through wireless internet to update itself.
Any suggestions? I've tried troubleshooting and resetting the box.

Thank You

Confirm that the IR blaster or serial cable is still properly seated in the back of the tivo, and that it is properly positioned in/on the sat receiver.

i've already done all that ... i'm hoping it's not time for me to get a new tivo box since i have the lifetime subscription and i don't want to give that up just yet :(

perhaps i should add that i can pull up the guide and other info fine with the tivo remote. it even thinks it's changing the channel (as the info for the channel it should be shows up), it's just that the channel never actually changes.

The problem is with the IR blaster. Check it with a digital camera, which can detect IR signals: watch the digital camera screen as you request a channel change. If it's not working, IR blasters are available ot radio shack or tivo.com.

It's not the IR blasters. The channel displayed through Tivo won't change either. That's the problem that cannot be fixed, evidently. When watching Tivo, I can change channel displays, but the video won't change. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how to fix it?

Again, the IR blasters aren't the problem!

You don't seem to understand the function of the IR blasters. Tivo cannot tune satellite channels on its own; that's why it needs the satellite box, which it controls with the IR blasters. It makes no difference whether you're trying to change the channel with the tivo remote or tivo is trying to change channels on its own. It uses the IR blasters to send the command to the sattelite box. It makes no difference that the remote works; it has nothing to do with the IR blasters.

The problem is the IR blasters.

The problem is the IR blasters.

The problem is the IR blasters.

Go check them and buy new ones if they are bad.

Edit: Oh, I see you are not the same person. Nevertheless, go check your IR blasters. In your case, also confirm that you've selected the correct model cable box in Guided Setup.
