I recently switched from dishnetwork to directv and for some reason every so often the channel thats playing for more than an hour at a time will start to sound with a metallic sound along with the audio .... when i press channel up or down and then go back to the channel that it was then the metallic sound problem goes away until the next time .... has any 1 else had this problem or even heard of this kinda problem?

Will appreciate any input :)

What brand/model Tivo? This sounds like the "kazoo audio" problem. Usually it's solved by rebooting your Tivo (disconnect power, wait 30-sec, reconnect power).

Did it again the sound muffed up to metallic sound after an hour of the restart. Changed the channel and it went back to normal when I put it on the channel that the sound messed up on.

I noticed on a recording that it did the same causing me to not be able to watch the show... but since it was 4 shows in a row on the same channel the noise seemed to go back to normal after about an hr and a half.

it's happening on multiple channels.

thanks in advance :)

How is the DirecTV Receiver connected to your Tivo? What brand/model DirecTV Receiver do you have?

Using AV cables for audio along with the s-video for video from the directv receiver and same to TV ... I've tried connecting the audio cables to the DVD player to get the sound thru tivo to make sure tivo is not the problem and the sound was normal for the dvd player.

I've called directv and they said they will send me a new HD receiver to see if that fixies the problem.

I noticed that the sound fixes itself when I disable the dolby from the directv menu but after an hour of it being off the problem starts right back up again... in other words I have to keep toggling the dolby or channel change to stop the problem with the audio.

thanks in advance :)

Guess it's a defective Receiver. Let's hope the replacement solves the problem. Let us know.

I've been having this problem lately. At first I only noticed it on the local channels, but wed. it started up on the Mythbusters at 45 min. into it. The metallic sound is so irritating! I think I remember having it a long time ago also. I was thinking Directv is using too low of a bite rate on the audio. I have a Sony SVR3000.

I received a new receiver yesterday and so far no problems with the audio ... seems that receiver (H20) was defective and thank god cuz it was ruining my tivo recordings. Might want to give them a call rwagner. Tell them from the get go that u tried another source and it did not have problems until u used the receiver again and then they can just mail you a replacement.

Thanks for the info raven2490. Mine has been very intermittent. In fact the last few days it hasn't acted up at all. I really love the Sony remote, so I'll probably hold out a little longer.
