Be sure to also click the links in the title for the complete list of supported adapters.
Some of the routers that are cheap after rebate can be used as an access point/bridge. Basically you change the IP address, so it isn't the same as your main router and turn off DHCP.
I know you can do this with the Motorola WR850G. I know you can do it with at least some of the Linkys routers (some with third party firmware) and with some of the Belkin routers.
Certainly worth checking places like dslreports.com if you have an old router in your box of old stuff.

Or Gaming adapters are basically bridges. Its a lot more complicated than "you change the IP address, so it isn't the same as your main router and turn off DHCP." What it does is replace the wire running between the router and another segment of the LAN the DHCP (if you need it) is still handled by the main router.
Gaming adapters are easier to set up. A gaming adapter can cost $70, you can get a router for $10 A/R. This makes sense if you have an extra router or if you're very price sensitive.
How complicated it is to set up a router as a bridge depends on your router and the firmware. I agree it's not a simple as using a gaming adapter, you generally have to configure it with a hardwire connection. It's easier if you disconnect your router when you're configuring the extra router.
Motorola defaults to bridge mode being on. Basically I had to turn off DHCP, change the IP address and then put in the MAC address of the other routers in the bridge mode section. It really wasn't that complicated. I had to change something like 6 fields total. It's a lot easier if you check DSLREPORTS or do a Google search to see if it's been done and if there are any "tricks of the trade"
It becomes a lot more complicated if you have to first install third party firmware.
edited to I remember the "complicated" step. Most of us let the router assign an IP address to our PC (DHCP). You have to manually set an IP address on your PC when you're configuring your router as a bridge. You have to disconnect your router otherwise you'll both routers will have the same IP address so your PC won't have an IP address.
