I recently obtained a TCD230040 TiVo. I've seen others refer to the TCD230040 as an "AT&T" TiVo but this one's System Information says "Manufacturer Brand: Comcast" so I'm guessing that neither Comcast nor AT&T actually manufactured TCD230040 boxes but that TiVo, as OEM, manufactured these for assorted content providers. Can someone confirm? This was actually manufactured by TiVo?

The exterior is similar or identical to the TCD24xx . Is there anything special to know about this model? Any differences from the TCD24xx or any 'gotchas?

TIA

TiVo doesn't actually manufacture anything they sell.

They were made by the same contract manufacturer. There is no practical difference between the AT&T/Comcast models and the TiVo branded black counterparts.

They have different OS kernels. At least the AT&T 130 model has front panel controls on it which TiVo branded models never had; though I don't know whether the 230 has those controls. But the main point is true: the 230 should be exactly as reliable as the TiVo models of that era - same designer (TiVo) and same manufacturer (a Mexican electronics contractor).

I know that S1 TiVos had heftier power supplies than the S2 boxes. Does anyone happen to know if all S2 boxes are created equal in terms of power supply capacity? In another thread elsewhere, someone implied that later S2s had weaker power supplies than earlier ones. See this (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=342709)

Model 540s are significantly different than the 240s and have different power supplies. But I would not expect any difference between 230s and 240s.

"Different," yes. But are the ratings lower on the 54x power supplies compared to the 2xx power supplies?
