For the first time we see the new series3 units being offered on eBay for $599 with free shipping. Yesterday was $.20 listing day on eBay, and it brought a lot more than normal of TiVos into the marketplace. Hopefully, now that the lifetime transfer option is dead, we will see the retail price on these continue to fall.
Why bother with eBay when Costco sells it for $600 and the TCS sells it for $620?

Seems to me that only when the retail price goes down to $550, that you can truly get a Series 3 for under $600 out of pocket.
$555 + $44.50 (sales tax) = $599.50

No, no, it is only under $600 when the box + tax + lifetime service + cost of filing a class action lawsuit < $600.

Of course you do report that when you file your taxes and pay at that time, because you're an upstanding citizen and recognize your civic duty. Right? ;)

since we are wondering- I thought internet sales had a moritorium on sales/use tax so you dont even need to include them on your state income tax forms?
Or was it just that they aren't required to collect sales tax directly but you still have to self report?

Yes you DEFINITELY have to self-report. (I am not a lawyer though..)

Hey. You're the one that said 599.00. How is that my lousy math.
Congrats on your purchase by the way. Hope you enjoy your S3 as much as I do mine. I paid almost a grand with a 3 year extended warranty.

WTF, this is crazy. Yes it's under 600.00. Yes 599.00 is under 600.00.
Why is everybody making a big deal out of this? I just laughed because 1 buck isn't a heck of a lot when you're talking the difference between 600. 00 and 599.00.
Sorry I even posted it. Move on, nothing to look at here. Geeze.

and yes I am also amused to see a long a thread can go on just what under 600$ means
Hope you enjoy your S3 as much as I do mine.
funtoupgrade doesn't really "enjoy" the S3. He just buys and resells them.

TiVo, inc. charges sales tax whenever I order something from them online, because I live in Texas. :(

Sort of true. I just have basic scrambled (thanks to Comcast) analog cable and standard definition TV's so it would be hard to enjoy an S3 as a user. On the other hand, I do enjoy upgrading and reselling them.

Ok. Calm down. Some of us were just sarcastically posting that $599.99 doesn't "really" mean under $600.
Take only $600 to Best Buy (or wherever) and see if you walk out with a $599.00 Series 3 Tivo. Sheeze.

Considering the title of the post, it seems as though you are simply saying that the sub $600 price has been hit and it just happens to be on Ebay..
I think anyone that would pay anywhere near full price on Ebay is an idiot.

It's not hard to find people on eBay paying more than retail prices.
