View Full Version : WMP will no longer play my TiVo files

I recently tried to play some of my TiVo files on my computer using Windows Media Player. I've done this in the past, and it worked fine.

Now I get an error message: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file ..."

I tried playing the files in quicktime with no luck. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing my TiVo desktop with no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Have you tried re-installing WMP?

Have you tried re-installing WMP?

I wasn't aware you could do anything with WMP without top-level security clearance from Microsoft.

Something added a different mpeg codec maybe..??..

Have you installed anything new lately?

Nero will do that..

Suddenly having the same problem. Today Tivo files won't burn to myDVD (Sonic).
Yesterday they did. Tivo says there are no problems.

I've stayed on Tivo to Go 2.0 (and tried reloading it) for compatibility issues.

How do I check codec on the programs that have been transferred onto my PC?

Can you explain how I might troubleshoot this problem in very simple terms, please.

Tivo seems to have reconfigured their once excellent support to only allow reps to say, "It's not our problem."

I just discovered the reason why my dvds were not playing on my laptop. It was because of the Tivo ToGo software. I renamed the Support folder under C:\Program Files\Tivo so that the media/dvd player software will not use those files as the decoder files. I will have to rename the folder back when I want to use the Tivo software.

Great tip, this helped me fix the same WMP9 problem I had on W2k. I narrowed it down to these two files in the Tivo/Support folder:

mcmp4demux.ax
mcmpgdmx.ax

If I move those two files out of the Support folder into a backup folder, WMP9 plays tivo files just fine. Weird.

Awesome! Worked perfectly for me. Many thanks for figuring this out.
And oh, I run Win XP - worked just fine regardless of the OS.
