I just joined the TiVo community, and I searched several of the forums for advice on this subject... came up empty (I have a Series 2 TiVo). I also posted this on another forum, but was advised to come here.

I have a new 400Gig, external HD, via USB to my computer. I'd like to know what's the best way to copy TiVo programs to this external HD so that I can easily track these programs, like other video files on a HD.

Any advice would be appreciated; tnks in advance.

I believe it's a Series 1, that came with my subscription to DirectTV about 3 years ago. I'm unable to turn it around 'cause the installer used very short cables!

In the first post, you said it was a Series 2. Go to the Menu and look up the model number in the System Settings section.

The manufacturing "Brand" is a "100", and it's a Series 2.

I have a Phillips DSR-708, I beleive it is a Series 2 unit, is there anyway to take recorded shows off the unit onto an external USB drive?

We can't really talk about extrction here. A good place to start would be the Zipper if you want an automated solution, or reading over at the DDB forum on how to do it manually. You could always use a video capture card on your PC to record the shows off the tivo.

Thanks, finnstang.

I've seen references to Zipper, but what exactly is it? and what's the best site/ URL to go to get info on it?
