I just got a series 2 tivo w/lifetime service. I got a good deal for it because the hard drive was going out. the recordings were skipping & freezing, & I even booted up a hard disk tool & checked the drive & found it had tons of bad sectors ( & yes I DID NOT BOOT MY TIVO DRIVE INTO XP, knowing that it would write a signature that will mess the tivo OS up. or something like that.) so I happened to have the exact same model in my closet & i thought that i could juast swap out hard drive. I tried it and it worked! even the tivo name & account status stayed (must be embedded on the mainboard)but the drive that i put in only had ver 4.o1b software on it. I need 7.1 or higher I think. because I use the tivo branded wireless G adapter & it would not work with that software version. I decided to take it to my moms & tie up her phone line overnight because I have no landline. I did it & came back 24 hours later & the tivo system info said "pending restart". so I restarted it & now it gets past the "welcome powering up" & the "Almost there just a few minutes more" & it goes to the "preparing the service update, this may take up to an hour, maybe longer". then it sits at that screen for about 8 seconds & keeps on rebooting in a loop. HELP PLEASE. I think I may need a disk image for my unit unless there is any other ideas that you wise, wise tivo-ers may have to help out a fellow tivo-er. btw it is a "TCD24004A" please help me out. I am totally new to tivo, but am somewhat computer savvy.
