How can I go about adding additional storage to a drive I've already zippered?
I only have 2 IDE ports in my PC, so I wasn't able to do it on the fly. Is there a way to use mfsadd and then just pop the drive back in the unit, and it'll be happy?
Thanks for any information you can help provide!

yep mfsadd is all you need to do.

If you only have two IDE ports the you'll have to find some way to be able to boot from a Linux distribution with both of your hard drives connected to the IDE bus. You might be able to use an IDE to SATA adapter and connect one of the drives to an SATA port (I'm assuming you have them since most late model PCs have SATA ports and only one IDE bus). You can use the boot CD from mfslive.org with SATA drive support. It's usually advisable to have the two drives on different IDE buses when using mfsadd anyway.

So I do have to have both the drives connected at once to use them both in the same tivo? There's no way to prep a drive and just add it to a tivo?
You'll have a problem with your tivo if either drive fails. Large hard drives are cheap. I'd just buy a bigger drive and use your existing drive as an emergency replacement. You'll save the cost of bracket and possible cost of a new IDE cable, power splitter and power conditioning. The power supply is marginal for two drives.

I got two 500gb drives, and I'd like to use both of them. If one of them fails, I'll tackle that if it happens.
There is a bootable floppy that's normally used if you want to copy a 2 drive tivo to 2 new drives.

I've never used it, my guess is it hasn't been used enough to be tested. I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT PROPERLY HANDLES THE SWAP FILE. My suggestion is you find an old computer that has two IDE channels.
