View Full Version : Using old WinXP hardrive. INstantcake errors.

When I try to install onto an old harddrive that I used for WInXP I get an error in Instantcake. It says restore failed. backup target not large enought for the entire backup by itself. cannot continue

What should I do?

What size is the hard drive?

Sounds like you're using a drive smaller than the Instantcake image will allow. I had errors trying to go from one that was a 40GB to another 40GB, all because the original drive was just a few sectors bigger than new drive. I worked around it and got another image to work though. I would think that DVRupgrade would be sure that instantcake for a series 2 would fit on any 40GB drive. Maybe they can chime in for us?

it is 40gb. I actually am using the original tivo drive. But it was formatted to winxp just recently so I could test if I built my new computer ok. So it was from a Hughes SD-DVR40 which I thnk is a 40gb drive. Do you think this is the problem?

Hmmm.... that's odd. Maybe someone else can chime in here, but the next thing I would try, other than contacting DVRupgrade, would be to delete the windows partition. Although, I thought that restoring and IC image would overwrite anything that was there.

Have you tried to contact DVRupgrade?

The image used for instantcake won't restore to a drive 40 gigs or less. The image is too large. You could grab AW's 62minimal image from emule. It'll restore to anything 2 gigs or larger.

the 62 minimal is actually what I used on my unsubbed TiVo, 40GB drive (original TiVo Drive) then I updated it to the right service number (101 instead of 321) when I loaded the 6.2a slices. I didn't even think of that. I was going to buy the IC image, but I see it wouldn't have worked. :(

Da Goon is that the exact name of the file. I don't want to download a corrupted copy.
