View Full Version : Series 1 -- Change my TimeZone?
Hi,
If I change my TimeZone on my Series 1, I believe I should be able to see the "correct" local time in the guides and in the To-Do List. Correct?
Would this have any negative side affects. I don't believe it should, but it doesn't seem to be a much discussed "solution".
I have two Series 1's and a Series 2, and I usually check the upcoming evening of shows by using the guide on one of the Series 1's. Last night was a little confusing when checking out what was coming on and when. I would rather not have to mentally adjust an hour when viewing the guide or when checking on my To-Do's.
Thanks.

Someone suggested moving your time zone over one zone to the East.
Leave your zip code and everything else alone. Just change your time zone. (For example, if you're in Central, change it to Eastern.)
This will get your clock right for the next few weeks.
When the old DST date comes up, you'll have to correct the setting to your real time zone again, because the TiVo will have made the DST correction.
You'll have to do something similar come this Fall...I think.
The only people this doesn't work for is people in the Eastern time zone, since the S1 doesn't offer the Atlantic time zone as an option.
Also, someone else has managed to actually hack his TiVo, and has FORCED it into the Atlantic time zone setting. He posted here- http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4954286&&#post4954286

I'm sorry....
Let me make it clear this (the time zone approach, not the hack) will work with the Series 1 machines. Don't know about the Series 2. As I understood, the Series 2 isn't having the same problem as the Series 1, and what problems it has were corrected after a few hours.
I'm in the east (EST). Then I guess this won't work. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Haxx - you can do it, but not through the front end. You have the right idea - essentially you set your Tivo to Atlantic time - but you need a hacked Tivo at this point to do it. My solution isn't very elegant, but good people are working on improving it.

Do you think this is something TiVo would eventually be able to download when a TiVo phones home? In other words, would they be able to use your method to fix everyone else's Series 1? Permanently? (Or at least use your method as a starting point to achieve a permanent fix?)

(Or at least use your method as a starting point to achieve a permanent fix?)As-is? No, but certainly as a starting point. As another poster mentioned, my workaround is about "80% complete." It seems to work OK, but it has by no means been thoroughly tested. Also, its impact on certain aspects, such as how the ToDo list and guide would appear during the week leading up to the DST change, haven't been addressed. However, the patch is already proving itself to be a step in the right direction ... the "cosmetic issues" such as manual recordings all being an hour off seem to have been corrected. :p
Actually, the logic behind my hack is so simple that I've got to believe that the programmers at Tivo have thought of it, and even coded it.... which leads me to suppose that Tivo Corporate is preventing them from releasing it. I seem to remember an old announcement from them saying that Series 1 would get no new updates after 3.0. I think they made an executive decision to stand behind that announcement. But that's just my (slightly educated) guess.

Winner!
To code a fix for the DST change is a very simple thing. It can be done in any number of ways, but each of them is easy enough. I'm almost certain that the TiVo software guys could do it (I said ALMOST because they can't seem to figure out how to set a subfile page correctly.)
It's without any doubt in my mind that TiVo Inc. doesn't want to send out a fix for the S1 boxes.
