Spare TiVo Series 2

I took part in the migration offer, transferring my lifetime service from my TiVo Series 2 to my new TiVo Series 3. I no longer need my Series 2 box. Is there some program through which I may donate it to a worthy cause? What issues will I have with it being registered in my name and still having 9 months of programming/service?

I'm sure GoodWill will take it. It should run for the 9 months unless the new owner tries to get the unit in his or her name. If that happens I believe TiVo will cancel the complementary subscription which is not transferrable. If you turn off transfers in manage my account on the TiVo web-site there should be no issues regardless of what a new owner does.

IIRC after the 1 year of free service they will start to bill you monthly so you should probably cancel the Series 2 subscription before giving it away or selling it (unless you can remember to do it in 9 months).

I ma not sure it will do Goodwill much good. Best bet is to let some friend of family use it for the 9 months while keeping it on your account. after a few months they should know if they intend to pay the monthly subscription when the time comes.
