View Full Version : Hacking a Series 1 so the DST dates are now correct again?

Since TiVo isn't updating the DST dates on the Series 1 machines...subbed or unsubbed, has anyone been able to make the change themselves? (Switching the spring date from the first Sunday in April to the second Sunday in March, and the fall date from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November?)

Even people whose S1s are subbed can't do manual recordings now without off-setting the time by an hour for the next three weeks (and making a similar adjustment for a week this coming Fall).

Anyone out there tried to do something so the clock displays the correct time and manual recordings work again without jumping thru hoops?

Any chance you could tell me what the change involved?

Pulling the drive and hooking it up to your computer?

Clearing off all your recordings?

What's involved?

Did you see his link?

Did you see his link?

Yes, but as said, I don't know HOW he achieved the change.

Did it require erasing his recordings?

Did he have to pull the drive and hook it up to his computer?

Was he able to make the change while the drive was still in the machine?

Those were the questions I asked, and I don't believe what's at the link answers those questions. Maybe it would for someone who's more computer saavy than me, but for me, it didn't.

Do YOU know the answer to those questions?

Since he has in the link info to create the scripts, then it would seem that if you had telnet and ftp access to your tivo then you could do this while the drive is in the unit else then it would seem you would have to pull it. Of course if you felt like pulling the drive regardless ..... The link didn't say anything about erasing the recordings, so I would guess a no to that. But then there is the Warning at the bottom of the post about the crontab and to see another post:

which after looking over also looks like the same answers as above.... Please let me know if you'd like more of my computer savvy expertise in this.. :D

Actually, I'd be in need of recruiting someone to help with hacking my TiVos.

I just wanted to get a general idea of what'd be needed...so's to know if I dare ask someone for help or not.

I have a feeling it's pretty extreme, especially if someone's not familiar with a TiVo's innards.

*groan*

WHY did they change the DST dates?

I suppose you could pull the drive as well, but at this point the hack is still "in development" (other people are working on cleaning it up, apparently, and making it easier to set up) so I wouldn't do that yet unless you're desperate.

I didn't have to erase recordings, redo Guided Setup, or anything. Just run the script and reboot the Tivo. However, that's something that'll have to be done manually 4 times a year (once each in March and November to set the time correctly, and then again in April and October to undo the effect of the Tivo native software which is still stubbornly trying to change the timezone at that time), unless you set it up to run automatically on the DST changeover dates. I suggest a way of doing that using cron over in the other thread.
