I want to switch to an HD reciever, but need to know if the bigger dishes require a bigger unobstructed view.
Here's a picture of what my dish currently "sees":

the photo was taken resting my lens on top of the dish and shooting along the same angle the dish points.
I get a 95 or better signal strength on both inputs, but am worried about an obstructed view issue if the 5 unb dish requires a bigger view of the sky.

That picture tells me nothing since you didn't say what dish you have now. Also, showing how the dish points isn't valid because of the offset LNB arm. The sat signals come in higher to reflect off the dish onto the LNBs.

2 unb round dish...
nevermind, it'll be easier for me to switch to cable.

Any chance that you can locate a dish at a different position?

Not really, I'm limited to my patio area, what that pic doesn't show is my dish is mounted via the pole in the bucket of cement method. If I wasn't on the ground floor I could mount it on my balcony rail which extends it away from the building a bit.
The most I could do is elevate it by putting the lovely bucket on a platform of some kind, which could theoretically clear the obstruction on the right side in the photo, but there's no way to get around the balcony above me (viewable on the left in the photo.
