We have a Humax DRT800 which is stuck on the Welcome Screen after a power surge. I was told by Humax that the drive is fried. Is there anyway to get a new drive ourselves and try to repair it....right now we are planning on throwing it away, so will try whatever we can, but don't want to send it back to Humax.
I see that some people have posted about replacing the dvd burner....not quite sure if that is the same thing. Thanks for any help.

No, you need to replace the hard drive, if that is indeed the issue. If you can hear the fan and hard drive spin up when you plug it in, then that suggests that the power supply is okay. You might want to search the forums to see if someone else had your issue in the past. Either this forum or the Help Center would be likely places.

Sounds like a dead drive. If the machine powers on to "Welcome" but never boots up to TiVo Central, than it's most likely the drive.

If the drive isn't *too* dead, you can try to clone it onto a new hard drive. You can also order a Ready-To-Go hard drive from Weaknees that you can just pop into the box in place of the bad one.

you can also build your own drive from scratch with "InstantCake" (Google it). Depending on what hardware you have laying around, and how comfortable you are with such endeavours... the easiest is to get a drive from Weaknees
