I currently own a high definition direct tv-tivo. The model is hp10-250. I am moving to an apartment that has only at&t/dishnetwork with no dvr capabilities. Does anyone know if I am able to just connect an antenna to my dvr and receive off air programming without direct tv.

The HR10-250 needs to have DVR service activated in order to record OTA. Thus, you need some level of DirecTV subscription.

You do know that you could install your own DirecTV dish, within certain guidelines, regardless of what the apartment says. Of course, you'll need line of sight to the sats.
