I upgraded the drive in my T60 for the first time last August, I used the InstantCake software to do it onto a new Maxtor drive.

Well, it seems that my new upgraded drive crashed. It was starting to act up and rebooting, got the GSoD, came back, but now it won't get past the Almost There startup screen, so I think it's hosed.

I swapped back to my original drive and it seems to be working, but at the lower capacity and of course that's an old drive.

I can go and do the upgrade again on a new drive, I still have the stuff to do that, but do I have other options?

I'm a lifetime subscriber, I have certainly got my monies worth of the subscription. I am on DirecTV and like the combo box. From what I'm reading, it sounds like I don't have a true new option to go with.

I really like the dual tuner setup with DirecTV, what boxes are available with that configuration that may be newer than what I have now? Just how bad is the DTV, non-Tivo box? I'm open to all suggestions as I have not looked into this in a while and need to do some research, pointing me in the right direction would help!

My main thing is reliability. My wife was not happy when I did the upgrade to begin with, I need to make sure whatever I do works well and is easy for her to use. It was hard to convince her to get Tivo way back, but now she can't live without that functionality!

BTW, lifetime is on the account and not an the box. As long as you keep the DirecTV account open you will always have free DVR service.

Free DVR service, including the DTV DVR? Or only if I use Tivo DVR with DTV?

Lifetime DVR service regardless of type of DVR, TiVo or the new thing.

Read about DirecTv for their own brand of DVR

If possible stay with a Directv/Tivo unit. The Directv Units are OK, but the Tivo ones are alot better.

Back to one of your original questions. You could get a new drive and run instantcake on it and install the drive in your T60. You should be up and happy in a few hours.

However, with DST happening this weekend, the time reported by your box might be off for a few weeks. Probably not enough of a problem to live without your Tivo though.

Yea, this is an option. Currently running my old original drive which is working, but I'm worried about age of the system overall.

I'm really leaning towards a complete switch now though...I've been looking at Dish Network with their DVR. DVR seems to be pretty nice, good features on Dish and I think I will get what I have today (and more) for less than what I'm paying now.

I have not made the order yet in case someone wants to try and convince me otherwise!
