I'm getting ready to enter the land of HD. My questions is.....Would the new dish that is needed for the Mpeg4 still work with a HR10-250? I know I couldn't get my locals over the dish and I'd still need an OTA antenna, but would it receive all the other signals and HD channels?

Yes.

The HR10 will work just fine with the 5LNB dish.

You can get a deal if you get an H20 or HR20 you'll get the 5 LNB dish and the new switch installed for free. You can keep your HR10 and any other older receivers you have. And you'll have an MPEG4 receiver as a spare/backup plus get any MPEG4 channels as they become available.

I'm assuming that the H20 and HR20 are just HD receivers and not DVRs and are therefore "free"?

HR20 is a DVR, but no tivo software

H20 is the standard HD receiver and is usually free.

HR20 is the DVR, non Tivo of course. Probably would cost $99-$199.

I was just mentioning that if you planned to pay $99 or something for the 5 LNB dish you might as well get an MPEG4 HD receiver as well since the 5 LNB dish comes free with either of the receivers. So for the same or similar money you get not only the dish and the new switch you need, but an MPEG4 capable receiver to get all the new channels coming later this year (and HD locals and HD RSN now).

If you log into your DirecTV account and choose "upgrade equipment" option you'll get a list of all the deals you can get. You can of course negotiate for others or a better price by playing CSR roulette.
