Does the HR10-250 support over the air HD Broadcasts? Meaning, can I ignore then MPEG4 issue for local channels through DirecTV and go OTA?

If yes, does anyone have any antenna suggestions (Indoor)? We're less than five miles for all four major networks.

5 miles..try a paper clip. lol

At that close any indoor should do. Make sure is a return policy at the store, best buy, radio shack etc.

And yes the tivo agreement is thru early 2010 so the boxes will work thru then at least. And heck they still support old ultimate tv boxes so likely will tivo for a very very long time.

I'm in the same situation. I dont care about mpeg4 and when i do, will just get a new box, no big deal. But wont give this one up!

I disagree. I'm 4.5 miles from towers at my location, and while my signal is strong, multi-path is tremendous at this distance. As you may have already read, the HR10 does poorly with multi-path as well. I tried an omni-directional, which got every station but I had to manually adjust to do so, which is a no-go with a DVR. Go ahead and try some cheap antennas and you may have luck, but I got the Silver Sensor and reception's been virtually perfect ever since.

I am 45 miles from the transmitter tower that all of the national affiliates use in our area, and my HR10-250s OTA reception is rock solid.

I use a Channel Master CM4228 antenna and a CM7777 pre-amp mounted on the roof about 20 feet off the ground.

If you are that close to the transmitter, you probably will do fine with an indoor antenna, especially if they are all within 15 degrees of each other.

you can also buy things to cut down the signals...and yes if you are near tall buildings etc it can wreak havoc

I'm 6 miles from my towers and the paper clip really does work. Not reliable, but it's a fun gimmick to try. I use a CM 4221 as my "real" antenna.

I'm 30 or so miles and get very good service from a Terk indoor. There are some who will blast it but then of course, they think they can speak for everyone.

I actually bought it assuming I would replace it with a rooftop. That was 6+ months ago and I'm still using it.

NOT the HDTVLP - it didn't work.

I use the terk as well and have no issues except for when my housemates move it around. Of course, I have line of sight from my mostly glass living room wall straight across the bay to the ginormous antenna in SF...
