i haven't made a call with my tivo for almost 2.5 years now. the main reason why is that i don't have a land line at my home and have to bring my tivo to the office to make a call. anyways, i would like to upgrade to 6.3. if i force a call will it automatically upgrade to 6.3?
also, have all the bugs been worked out with this new update? thanks for any info.

If the 6.3c update is on your hard drive, then a call will authorize its installation. If successful, your system info screen will show "Pending Restart", the restart will complete the installation.

Unfortunately, the rcvr. must be "hacked" (modified) to see that info.

that sucks. you see i don't want to keep dragging my tivo to the office to make a call if i won't get the update. i'm sure i'll get it eventually but its not worth it to keep unhooking everything. i guess i'll just stay with what i have since although there aren't as many features and its slow, there aren't any bugs either.

Because of DST, I successfully forced calls and received updates on two of my tivos this week that hadn't made calls in awhile. This is how it happened:
I hooked each one up to a telephone line and a tv. I didn't even bother connecting them to the satellite. I updated the call in numbers and conducted a test call. After I conducted the test call, the Tivo seemed to take over, meaning I didn't even have to click the option to force a daily call (in fact, it won't let you).
After about 30 minutes, its connection via the phone line will stop, and it will try to download the software via the satellite. Since mine weren't connected to the satellite at the time, it just said that it failed to obtain a satellite signal. I then disconnected the phone line and hooked the Tivos back up to the satellite again. When they restarted, they immediately started downloading the new software. Worked on two Tivos for me this week.
Hope this helps.
