View Full Version : DVR2-Signal strength question

On certain transponders, there is a huge differance between signal strength.
Example: Transponder 23
Tuner one will be 85 with a peak of 90
Tuner Two will be 38 with a peak of 89
I don't get it? I searched and found a lot of great info but not what I needed.
Shouldn't they be close? Don't they read from the same area?
It is mostly the odd number transponders that are affected. This causes pixelation.
I have read the advice to not use the s-video but I use a simple rca cable for video.

What are the readings if you swap the inputs? What dish do you have? Are all TPs showings this or just odds or evens?

I have the standard round DLNB. Just the odds are screwy. I will make a note of them this evening.

With just the odds screwing up, I'd check all cables and connections. Usually, it's the evens that mess up when it is a cable problem, but you never know. Did things change when you swapped the inputs?
A reboot wouldn't hurt. :)

OK I have a similar issue. I got my dish partially tuned I think. I was able to get a strong signal 85-90 on 101 TP 28,30 and 32. ALSO I get a 90-100 on 110 TP 8,10,12.
I get NO signal on 119 or on the ODD TP's and TP's lower than 28 on 101???
Do I need to fine tune more? I have a multi-switch that is labeled for 18v and 13v with and w/o 22khz tone would that affect it? Also I have the "new" 5-LNB Dish, ALL brand-new cables and properly terminated with compression connectors.
THanks for your help!

I was able to get a strong signal 85-90 on 101 TP 28,30 and 32. On 101, you should get a signal on transponders 1-32 with low reading on a few of the even numbered spot bean transponders. You have the 101 LNB pointed at the 110 satellite.
ALSO I get a 90-100 on 110 TP 8,10,12. The 110 LNB is pointed at 119.
I get NO signal on 119 Because it is pointing out into space.

I believe your dish is misaligned. What you see as signals on 101 may really be from 110. The active TPs on 110 are 28, 30, and 32, which get shifted to 8, 10, and 12 by the Sat C LNB. So if the Sat A LNB sees SAT C TPs 28, 30, & 32 show up.

Wow, thanks alot.
It's so exciting to even get ANY signal when you've done this all by yourself with no fancy $100 signal meter or any written instructions on how to install the 5-LNB dish. I've installed the old round dishes but this of course as everyone says is totally new.
So I'm in the ballpark, now just a few more pulled hairs and cursing and I hopefully will be watching TV by the weekend.
Thanks again, hopefully this helped out kedeg also!

When aligning a multiple LNB dish it is absolutely imperative that the mast be plumb and that the tilt is correct for your zipcode. Then comes the elevation and azimuth.

Sorry I took so long! I switched cables on the tuners and now the pixelation and disappearing signal is now on tuner 1.
The signal in the bedroom which is off the same RCA non powered multiswitch is both strong and equal, no problems.
Could it be the multiswitch? It is a dual LNB round dish that is 10 years old or so. The multiswitch is 7 yrs old.

Bypass the multiswitch to see what happens. Also check signal strengths on all transponders on both tuners with and without the multiswitch. Try different outputs on the multiswitch.
My suspicions are that the multiswitch is the problem. If it were the LNB, then all receivers would show this problem. And while you are checking things, make sure all connections are free of corrosion and secure.
