Newbie here. I own a DirecTV Tivo Phillips DSR704 and am now looking to add a second Tivo unit to another room. The second room only has one line input.
Do I have to physically run a second line into the second room or can I just purchase some type of splitter? If I don't run a second line, can the unit work with just the one line input? Thanks.

Options -
1. Add a DirecTivo with your single coax and configure it as a single tuner.
2. Run a new coax and have dual tuner functionality.
3. Add a stacker/destacker to your single coax and have dual tuner functionality. Costs $300+ for parts and does not work with multi-sat dishes.
All of this is covered in the FAQ.

Just re-run the "Guided Setup" and tell it you have only one line, or run a 2nd line from your dish or multiswitch - never use a splitter.
There is a very expensive solution called a "stacker/destacker" that you could use that would let you combine two runs over one cable... it is not an ordinary "splitter" and will only work with single-satellite configurations.
