View Full Version : Any resale value to HR10-250?

I am debating whether or not to "upgrade" to the HR20 which would mean my HR10 would be expendable. With the the HR10 not being able to view the new HD channels that will be launced is their any value in selling it on eBay or something like that?

I just got an HR20 for my bedroom and I am optimistic about many of the future features. Although I am finding it very difficult to get used to after using a TiVo for the last 4 years or so.

Why not keep the HR10 on the account to continue to record the MPEG2 HD channels as well as having two more tuners for SD? Remember the HR10 will still be able to record OTA HD. This is what I plan to do when I decide I want/need MPEG4. This makes the HR10 worth a whole lot in my mind.

They're going for $300-$400 on ebay.

Are you serious? Why would people be willing to pay that much for something that will not be fully functional in several months once additional HD channels are added?

Makes selling it seem like a no brainer.

I just purchased one myself for 300.00 from e-bay (seriously). We now have 3 in the house.

Works great. I spent about 900.00 for the same unit a few years ago.

Why? Well we watch and record about 70% of our viewing from OTA channels.
(House, 24, Heroes, Law and Order, Law and Order, CSI, CSI and of course CSI...)
They're much cleaner, higher resolution channels then the "HD Lite" on satellite.

Plus me and my wife both love the Tivo interface. We've been using Tivo since the Series 1 boxes came out. With all the problems reported here and elsewhere about the HR20, I'll pass... Plus, all these new MPEG4 channels supposedly coming later this year - I'll believe that when I see it.

Oh yeah, one last thing. DUAL BUFFERS.
I watch a lot of sports. YOU HAVE TO HAVE DUAL BUFFERS!!

For 300.00 - reason enough?

I'm thinking of selling my HR10, and use the money for another HR20 even though I prefer the HR10 and Tivo. Decisions, decisions.

I sold a stock HR10-250 for $540 on eBay three weeks ago. It did have an extended warranty on it through 2008, but I was still shocked at the final price!

Whoa, whoa.... hold on just one minute. I haven't had ample opportunity to play with my HR20, and I haven't read up on all of its "features," but you're telling me it doesn't have dual buffers? WTF? That's crap! And I thought I hated hooking that thing up before.

Is that something that they could conceivably add via software update later?

Just record one channel and buffer the other. Works the same in the end...

I've got 2 on ebay and only 1 bid each at $100-1 day left. I hope mine ends up half as much as yours....

The price should bump up during the last hour. I still need to put one of my units on ebay. Mine has two 250Gb drives. Are they going for much more than the stock TiVos?

Conceivably...they could, but they're having enough troubles trying to get everything else to work bug-free, so it's not on their list of priorities.

It's the number 1 requested function (and has been for a while) yet D* isn't setting any speed records for implementing it ...look at their flagship SD DVR the R15 and the plethora of unfixed problems that thing has had since its' inception.

Granted, the R15 is made by NDS ...but it's still a D* product -and they can't get the dang thing right, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not really.

I'm a golfer so I watch a lot of golf on TV. I'm also a 49er fan.
Between the two 3 hour broadcast's, there is about 2 hours of actual play.

I'll have some buddies over and we'll start watching the game, commercial comes on and I pause it. Switch to the other tuner watch about 5 shots of golf before commercial comes on. Pause that. Switch back to other tuner continue game until caught up and next commercial. Pause, switch tuners and so forth.....

Might sound like a lot of work but we can watch every play in both sports in (almost) real time.

Not the same as recording one because you have to wait until the end to watch it.

Not the same as recording one because you have to wait until the end to watch it.

Wait, you're not aware that you can watch an in-progress recording?

Like he said, record one, leave the live TV buffer on the other. Watch live TV until a break, pause it, go to your recording list, watch the one you're recording until a break, go back to live and unpause, repeat.

OK, you got me there.
But a single button changes buffers on the HR10-250.

A little easier...
