View Full Version : How Screwed Am I?

My daughters year old HDVR80 began running choppy while playing Live TV. In addition, she doesn't have full time access to a phone line so she builds up messages. I've shown her to delete the messages or make the call, but at 14, well.

Anyway, I plugged the phone line in and forced the call to install 6.2a which seemed to install fine, but she's still choppy and the menu system is really slow executing commands.

Last night I did a clear and delete (not the big one) and it rebooted and started doing the action. Twelve hours later it was still on the same screen (This may take up to an hour). I unplugged the TiVo and it went back to the same screen. I'm at work so I don't know if it actually finished or not.

But I'm afraid that the Hard Drive is toast. Am I right? I know I can switch out the drive etc. But it's a pain in the butt and I don't really have time this week to mess with it.

Get a nice size hard drive (I got a 160gig) and use instantcake to set it up, then install it and do a clear and delete. You will be glad you did.

But then she has a bigger HD than I do! Oh well.

Then you should give her yours and you take the bigger one. :)

Ha Ha...At 14 she will be changing her mind so much as to what to record, the bigger drive will come in pretty useful :p

Let it set overnight on the clear and delete. Sometimes, it just takes longer than 12 hours. The message that this may take more than an hour is a bit misleading. Mine took about 15 -17 hours last time I did this on an hdvr80
