I currently have Total Choice + with HD, and pay $58.99.
It looks like the similar package is Plus HD, which is $10/month more.
What did the TC+ people switch to?

You'll still have TC+ with HD, but it will now be $51.99 (instead of $48.99) for the package plus $9.99 for HD (same as it was).
Your best option is, of course, to just keep the current pacjkage that you have. :)

I've got the rep on the phone - it's $81.99 for what I have now, $93.99 for the new package. I asked what I get extra for $12/month and she goes "well, basically, nothing"

The new Plus HD package also includes the $5.99 DVR service fee.
So the $69.99 price is made up of the DVR fee ($5.99), the HD Access fee ($10.99), and the original Total Choice Plus package fee ($51.99), or a total of $68.97. Isn't it nice of DirecTV to give you a package price discount of -$1.02? :)
I suppose there might be a couple channel differences between the new Plus HD package and the old Total Choice Plus package. Or at least I'd hope there'd be some explanation for the higher pricing.

I intend to just stay grandfathered with what I have (TC). I saved a couple of bucks when I dropped back to TC from TC+ (they moved The golf Channel down to just TC). Now it got moved back up to the "+" package, yet I still have it. My package is listed as Total Coice - no locals $44.99.

I really do not think that there is!

Stayed with TC+ for now. $48.99 + DVR $5.99 + extra box $4.99.
Using HD-TIVO with OTA and standard Tivo in bedroom.
Considering calling up and asking for HD service for free or something. Any suggestions on to get free service by calling them? Before I always had the Tivo purchase/change of equipment/service aspect to bring it up. Now I have nothing. :)

I originally thought it was about the new sw packages.
Probably not what you were thinking either. :D ;)

The new Plus HD package also includes the $5.99 DVR service fee....
I suppose it would be expecting to much to ask if the $4.99 fee for the second DVR might also be included, huh?

There is no difference between the Old Packages and the New, except the Price.
But watch out. If you try adding DVR Service to your old Package, they will say it cannot be done, and bump you to the new Package, which is $10.00 more with DVR Service. you end up paying more.
Also, if they do that, you cannot get your old package back!!!
Of course, there are ways to get things for Free. Especially if they screw up, and you loose service for 4 Days thru their muck up. But thats another story.

In addition to being more expensive, The new "Choice" package has fewer channels than the old "Total Choice" package that it replaced.

The Old Total Choice Plus and the new Total Choice Plus DVR are exactly the same as far as the lineup.
I am unsure if the Choice/Total Choice packages are different.

I'm wondering how these new packages for those of us with the old grandfathered DVR lifetime service. Down the road if there's a reason that necessitates us looking into a new package, would we be able to get one of the cheaper ones that doesn't include DVR functionality and still have our TiVos work?

I downgraded my service after transferring my lifetime to my S3 and I had to choose a package that included DVR service to keep my DirecTiVos working (I'm cancelling DirecTV completely once the cable cards are installed in my second S3 on Wednesday). I don't know if this is because of the new packages or if it's because I transferred my lifetime. I didn't think DirecTV knew about the transferred lifetime subs.

If you have DVR's and want to use them, be they Directv or Directv/Tivo, you will need a Package that includes DVR Service.
Directv no longer offers you to add DVR Service to any account.

I thought that you couldn't transfer DirecTV DVR lifetime service to standalone TiVos.

They modified the lifetime transfer offer to include DirecTiVos.

Yeah, it was all very strange... at first it wasn't allowed, then they changed the terms to allow it, then they changed the expiration date for those particular transfers... not sure what was up with that. The information wasn't well-disseminated, that's for sure.
Discussion thread here. (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=332803)
That said, it actually was a great deal. I'm happy I got to take advantage of it before it expired.
Like KableModem mentioned, I don't think the Lifetime transfer from a DirecTiVo unit actually reverts the original back to a 1-year-sub, like it did for the Standalones transfer. Because Lifetime is still on the DTV account, and I really can't see TiVo calling up DirecTV and having them remove it.
Even still - I'll be cancelling my DTV account pretty soon anyway, so it doesn't really matter, at least in my case.
