I received a 1st Gen Tivo from my brother with his access card. I would like to get a new access card. Does DirecTV or Tivo issue those cards?
If I understand it right. DirecTV is providing the channel data and Tivo is providing updates?

DirecTV provides the cards. As far as you're concerned, you deal with DirecTV only. TiVo is a subcontractor to DirecTV and does not interact with DirecTV customers.

My new apartment complex has the AT&T Home Entertainment service (ATTHE). ATTHE uses DirecTV as the satellite provider. They told me that Tivo issues the cards.

Make a phone call to D* or Tivo and find out the real answer.

TiVo has never issued DirecTV access cards. Those ALWAYS come from DirecTV.

Well I just talked with DirecTV and they said that I am not in their system at all. Which means I have to go though AT&T. Has anyone heard of AT&T Home Entertainment?

Maybe I should have refined my question. Has anyone besides me in the Tivo Community forums experienced AT&T Home Entertainment?

If you're getting the runaround, you can order new Access Cards from Weaknees for $25 ....

Well I finally figured everything out.
AT&T said that when I get my receiver from them that I can use the access card out of that device and put it into my Tivo. He just had to make a note to the install guy to make sure that the access card is a separate card rather than integrated into the box.
Just some tips: If you are going to use a Tivo that use to be with DirecTV and you are going to use it with AT&T you must make sure that the Tivo is out of DirecTV's system before activating it with AT&T.

To get a new access card, you need to contact DirecTV. If you don't already have DirecTV, you need to call 1-888-777-2454 where they can find an installer and get you hooked up. If you already have DirecTV, call 1-800-494-4388 to activate your reciever, they will send you a new access card if they cannot activate the existing one in your name.
