I have hacked Dtivo SD receiver Series 2 and I'm currently using Tytools to extract .ty stream and convert it to *.mpg with "tytompg" software. Is this a good way to do things or would you recommned the better way? Thanks.

P.S. I'm hoping I'm not violating any rules about asking this at this forum

There is a different forum for hacking... check the rules that are posted there

Forum for DTivo Hacking, Upgrades, Networking, etc

Talk of unsanctioned extraction isn't allowed in that forum either-- it's banned sitewide.

Video extraction is not allowed for discussion anywhere in the TCF forums. Check out the deal data base dot com forums (no spaces, etc.) for discussions on this topic. Chances are you already know about it since you're using tools that were developed there, which makes me wonder why you're seeking support here.

Many people buy "pre-hacked" TiVos or disk images and then ask for help when they run into trouble with software changes they didn't make and don't understand. Folks in the DDB forum tend to be unwilling to provide free tech support for something sold by others - reasonably so in my view. The users then try to get help elsewhere.

Guys. I just see no logic when this extraction topic is forbidden here while the hacks to make that extraction possible is the main topic on this forum. This is the main reason people are buying or making themselves hacked Dtivos... Don't you think it's some sort of double standards here? What are you afraid so much in "extraction" that it's forbidden here? I'm paying for Directv service and I believe I can copy my show onto the DVD. It is pretty much the same as connecting stand alone DVD recorder and dubbing the show. What's so illegal in that?

I will obey the forum rules but also I don't understand why this topic is banned here since tivocommunity.com is not related to the official TIVO website. Can somebody explain? Sorry for inconvenience:confused:

Tivo video extraction has been forbidden from day one; there has been no ambiguity about that. Some of the moderators have been distracted recently, and reality has intruded, but that doesn't mean we don't intend to root out such conversation as soon as we can get to it.

The Tivo world outside this forum has ample information about using your DTivo. This is not the place for Tivo conversation.

First of all, the main purpose of hacking your DTivo, at least on this forum, is to gain access to Tivo Webplus, Home Media option features, and multi room viewing. I hack, but do not extract at all. That's what a standalone DVD recorder is for.

Actually, there is a completely different forum to discuss hacking

Underground Foum Sticky (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=219548) explains it.

Here's an excerpt from the forum rules for the Underground forum:

NOTE...No talk of any type of service theft or video extraction is allowed.
Note that rules posted on the main page for any forum apply accross the board to all forums. Just because you're posting in a different forum doesn't mean you can circumvent the rules. This is common knowledge and practice for every forum I've ever visited on the web and one you should learn.
