Does anyone know how long DTV has the exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket? I am getting sick of DTV and I am only there for the football. With their cost going up and digital cable going down I am real close to being outta here. But I chicken out cause I gotta watch my Steelers every weekend! Read somewhere that the some senators were trying to get the cable companies and other carriers a chance of carrying the package, anyone else hear of this?

Yes, 2010. I doubt that they will give it up then. It has been just too good for them.

By the way, where is it that digital cable prices are going down. This is something that is almost unheard of.

Some Senators did look in to ST last fall, but I doubt it was for much more than "face time" prior to an election. Lately, some congress members have been looking at MLB EI too. I doubt much will happen there either.

The cable companies did have their chance to outbid DirecTV for the package twice in the last 5 years and neither time, were they willing to outbid DirecTV.

I seriously doubt that DirecTV will let the NFL go after the 2010 season either...
It is the cornerstone of their programming package....
Once they finalize the exclusive deal with MLB, they will make themselves the undisputed stop for sport fans........

I know you used to be able to get Sunday ticket as stand alone programming, maybe you can still get that.

Yes, I know somebody that only subscribes to Sunday Ticket and not to any other programming. They don't turn revenue away.

Are you certain that they are still able to do this? My understanding was that they did allow this at one time, but have since discontinued the practice.

It's grandfathered so if you had ST only from back when it was still allowed you can still have ST only, so long as you don't change anything on your account.

For new subs, you haven't been able to get ST alone for a few years now.
